Daniel Raffel
Feature Film Compositor

About Me

I hold a Bachelor of Science in Media Arts & Animation from the Art Institute of Portland, OR. My strengths include systematically solving and completing complex problems and shots, seamlessly integrating CG elements into live-action plates using provided render passes, and managing assets and teams to complete challenging sequences within budget and time constraints. With over 16 years of experience in feature films, episodic television, and high-end media production, I am an accomplished visual effects compositor. I have delivered photorealistic composites for over 70 projects, successfully managing them through delivery. Currently, I am applying advanced VFX skills within aerospace media production, overseeing workflows from concept to final output. My expertise spans filming, compositing, editing, and incorporating cutting-edge AI tools into traditional pipelines. As a proud member of the Visual Effects Society (VES), I am dedicated to combining artistic vision, technical precision, and innovative problem-solving to create visually compelling projects that stay at the forefront of industry standards.

My career has been defined by delivering photorealistic composites that seamlessly integrate CG elements with live-action footage. Projects such as Sonic the Hedgehog (MPC Vancouver), Transformers 4: Age of Extinction (Method Studios), and The Amazing Spider-Man (Sony Imageworks) have honed my skills in Nuke, compositing, and creative problem-solving. As a Compositing Sequence Lead on Once Upon a Time (Zoic Studios), I managed teams of 4-8 compositors, ensuring high-quality shot delivery under tight deadlines. My recent work on The Fall Guy, The Continental, Peacemaker, The Crowded Room and Monarch Legacy of Monsters further demonstrates my ability to handle complex compositing tasks for contemporary projects.

In my current role as a Flight Media Specialist at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, I continue to refine my skills in digital media production using the latest production tools, cameras, and techniques, as well as industry software including Nuke, DaVinci Resolve, and Premiere Pro. I record in-flight maneuvers, edit footage, and present it in various formats including augmented reality, VR, ultra-high-definition video, and social media, while ensuring accessibility compliance. This role has strengthened my ability to work independently and deliver high-quality visuals under time constraints, skills I am eager to bring to future projects.
